This is something that frustrates me as well. A particularly frustrating situation (one that admittedly mostly affects a certain playstyle) is when I’m doing a predatory build and moving into a new patch and this happens. If I’m starving and some blessed food happens to bump into me I wanna be able to eat it…wouldn’t you? Maybe it’s not entirely realistic as far as microbes eating other microbes goes but most people don’t wanna play a suffering simulator
EDIT Argh another frustrating moment of “there was food right there but I couldn’t eat it”; of course I’m just annoyed right now because of the circumstances but I can say this definitely happens more often than is fun
